PECKHAM
In New Peckham is situated the Licensed Victuallers’ Asylum, which was founded
in 1827, & so arranged that it should consist of 101 separate & entirely
distinct habitations, each containing 3 rooms besides other conveniences; the
building forms 3 sides of a quadrangle, the main building furnishing 43
dwellings, & the 2 wings 29 each, & in 1840, 2 lodges at the gates were
completed, making 2 additional habitations, & now consists of 103 separate
& distinct dwellings. Thomas Jones is secretary.
The large lunatic asylum called Peckham House contains 323 inmates. Peter
Armstrong is proprietor.
