The County of Leicester
Leicester is an inland Shire, but near the eastern sea; in shape it is hollow
towards the north, and running to a peak towards the south, and is 39 miles from
north to south, and 38 from east to west.
Asylums in the County of Leicester
The Lunatic Asylum for the Counties of Leicester and Rutland, a large and
handsome building standing on a healthy situation a short distance from
Leicester, was erected in 1837 and has been enlarged at various times. It will
hold 605 patients.
