Edinburgh Asylum
Founded in 1813 as Edinburgh Lunatic Asylum. Located at Morningside Place, Edinburgh.
It accepted Poorhouse Insane prior to 1930 as an arrangement with the City.
Under the National Health Service it became known as Royal Edinburgh Hospital.

Dr Clouston - Physician of Royal Edinburgh Asylum 051 Recently told the students of Edinburgh University that there are 17,500 persons in the British Empire insane through drink ! and that one half of the suicides in England are owing to alcoholic insanity. He said that even small quantities of alcohol will develop a hereditary taint of insanity; when otherwise it might lie dormant.
