The Lunatic Asylum stands on an eminence on the Old Monmouth road. It was built of stone in 1851.  There is a Chapel on site also of stone, with a Stained glass window and a bell turrett.

Plans for building an Asylum on a plot of land, costing £4,320 at Abergavenny for the joint Counties of Monmouth, Hereford, Brecon, Radnor and City of Hereford. 1848-1859
