The development of medicine has been
rapid since the 18th century. The
strongly held belief that disease was
caused by an imbalance of the Bodies own
"humours" was dispelled, and new
techniques and treatments appeared.
Many of the poorer people visited
Apothecaries, who would dispense
medicine to them and very often diagnose
their condition as they could not afford
to visit a Doctor.
The introduction of Anaesthetics greatly
affected the improvement of Surgery, and
surgical techniques. The details on
these pages will show how medical
advancement was achieved from 1750 to
2000.
