The History of
Physiotherapy
In 1894 four Nurses, Lucy Marianne Robinson, Rosalind Paget, Elizabeth Ann
Manley and Margaret Dora Palmer founded the Society of Trained Masseuses. The
Society was granted a Royal Charter in 1920 and in 1944 became the Chartered
Society of Physiotherapy. The Society merged with the Faculty of
Physiotherapists in 1968 and in 1970 amalgamated with the Physiotherapists
Association.
