HMP Walton, 68 Hornby Road, Liverpool
This prison was built in 1854, but many improvements made since that date.
Well known for prisoner Peter Allen, who with John Wally at Strangeways were the
last men to be hanged in 1964.
Kirkdale Prison
At the county sessions in Preston, it has been resolved, that towards the carrying into effect resolutions of the Courts of Annual Session 1866, authorising the General Finance Committee of the county to borrow £35,000 for altering, enlarging, and repairing the county prisons at Preston and Kirkdale, to approve of the mortgage of the rates for these purposes for the sum of £8,000.

This prison based on the dormitory and huts design, and able to accommodate
311 prisoners.
Wigan - police station and cells
At the next quarter-sessions of the peace for the county, the following resolution is to be moved. That a plot of land containing 340 square yards or
thereabouts, situated at Ince in the division of Wigan, be taken on lease for the term of 999 years, at a yearly rent of £5-13s-4d. and that a police station
and strong-rooms for the temporary confinement of prisoners be erected thereon;
and that for this purpose a sum not exceeding £890, be granted out of the police-rates of the division of Wigan.

HMP Manchester, Southall Street, Manchester
Otherwise known as "Strangeways" built in 1869.
Pendleton Town Hall, Salford
The new Town Hall for Pendleton is now completed, and arrangements will shortly
be made for the formal opening of it. It has been erected from the designs of Mr. Alfred Darbyshire, architect. The first stone was laid on the 22nd of
November 1865....
The contract was let to Cochrane & Co of Manchester for £9,245; the total cost,
however, by improvements and additions, will exceed £10,000 exclusive of fittings and furniture.
On the ground floor are the offices for the transaction of the district business, such as for the overseers, and collectors, surveyor, and two large
committee-rooms. The police department contains a dwelling for the inspector,
police-office,charge-room, parade-room, and three cells..

Preston
House of Correction
A range of 150 cells for male prisoners and a
new hospital were recently erected at the Preston House of Correction, and a
range of 72 other cells for females has been just completed from plans of
Mr. Hughes of Preston, architect, the contractor being Mr. Bickerstaff of
Preston, and the clerk of the works Mr. Chappell.
The contract for the last mentioned cells has been completed for a sum less
than the amount of the accepted tender, some alterations in the work having
been made during its progress which has led to larger deductions than
extras. The original
contract was £6,017, and the bills paid amount to £6,005.

Rawtenstall New Police Court
A new police court is now in course of erection in this place; the plan comprises a court-room, with retiring rooms for the magistrates and solicitors;
three cells for prisoners, with open yard; police-office, house for the sergeant, and rooms for policemen on duty.
The cells are heated with hot-water, the air from the outside passes over the warm pipes into the cells, and escapes by a ventilator in the roof. The outside
of the building is faced with stone. The buildings have been designed by Messrs
Maxwell and Tuke, architects, and are expected to be ready for occupation by next Midsummer.
