Prisons in Lincolnshire

Lincoln County Prison - Competition

The magistrates received 20 designs in reply to their advertisement, and after several meetings reduced that number to 3, and then referred the selected plans to Mr Bernard Hartley, the county surveyor of the West Riding of Yorkshire. Ultimately the design of Mr. Frederick Peck, architect of London was selected. The committee recommended that a grant of £100 be made to Messrs Jones and Lee, architects of London, whose plan was second in merit, and £50 to Mr. Moffatt, architect of Edinburgh. The prison is to be built in Lincoln, and will be commenced as early as possible.
