Barton upon Irwell Union Workhouse
Founded in 1849 by the Barton upon Irwell Board of Guardians.
Situated in Moorside Road, Manchester.

Barton-upon-Irwell workhouse became Bridgewater Hospital, Green Lane, Patricroft and it was this hospital that closed in the 1990s.
When Bridgewater was to close, its mental health beds were transferred to Trafford General (1991), its elderly-care beds having been moved there in
1986.
