Manchester Union Workhouse
The Manchester Workhouse and Hospital was founded in 1792 at New Bridge
Street, Manchester. A new Union Workhouse was erected in 1855 called Park House.
Park House later became Springfield Hospital. An infirmary was erected next to
Park House as a separate entity in 1876 which was known as Crumpsall Infirmary.
Prestwich and Manchester Unions were merged in 1915 to form one Manchester
Union.
The three poor law institutions of Springfield, Crumpsall and Delaunays formed
the North Manchester General Hospital.
