Blaby Union Workhouse
Blaby is a union town, township and parish, on the south bank of the river
Soar and Union canal, having a station on the Leicester and Nuneaton line of the
North Western railway.
The Board of Guardians meet at the Board Room, Union Workhouse, Enderby,
every alternate Tuesday at 10.30am.
The population of the Union in 1891 was 21,695, area 33,645 acres and rateable
value in 1899 was £114,541.
The Union comprises the following parishes:- Aylestone, Blaby, Braunstone,
Cosby, Countesthorpe, Croft, Enderby, Foston, Freakes Ground, Glenfield, Glen Parva,
Huncote, Kilby, Kirby Muxloe, Knighton, Leicester Forest East, Leicester Forest West,
Leicester New Found Pool, Lubbesthorpe, Narborough, New Parks, Oadby, Potters,
Marston, Thurlaston, Whetstone and Wigston Magna.

Blaby Union Workhouse, a building of brick was erected 1837 in Enderby from designs by William
Parsons, and built to hold 235 inmates.
