A Wealthy Nonagenarian
in Newark Workhouse
John Hartshorne aged 95 years who died in the Newark Union Infirmary
last week, is stated to be worth £4,000. It appears that until he became
very feeble and was taken to the infirmary, he had lived with a distant
relative in the town since Christmas 1901.
Inquiries made by the Guardians elicited that a son, through a firm of
solicitors, paid the deceased £10-10s-0d a year on account of money lent,
and that he was entitled to a legacy of over £4,000 left by a relative in
America. Some years ago the deceased was a colliery proprietor near
Wolverhampton, where he amassed considerable wealth.
