HAMPNETT(West)
The
spacious mansion house, formerly called West Hampnett Place, but now used as the
Union poor house, is of ancient date. The house was probably built by Richard
Sackville(uncle of Thoms, first Lord Buckhurst). It was converted to its present
purpose by the Duke of Richmond, whose property it is. It contains 125 inmates.
