Warwick Poor Law Union and Workhouse
Warwick Poor Law Union was declared 4th June 1836.
The Union
comprised the parishes of Ashow, Bagington, Barford, Beausale, Bubbenhall,
Budbrook, Cubbington, Eathorpe, Guy's Cliffe, Haseley, Hatton, Honily, Hunningham,
Kenilworth, Leamington Priors, Leek Wootton, Lillington, Milverton, Norton
Lindsay, Offchurch Pinley, Radford Semele, Rowington, Sherborne, Shrewley,
Stivichall, Stoneleigh, Tachbrook, Wappenbury, Wasperton, Weston-under-Weatherley,
Warwick St Mary, Warwick St Nicholas, Whitnash and Wroxhall
The
Union Workhouse in Warwick was erected 1838 from designs by W. Watson,
architect, and was known as St Anne's Workhouse. It was built of red brick on
Packmores Lane and could accommodate 350 inmates.
The Board of Guardians
met alternate Saturdays at 10.30 at the Workhouse to discuss Union
matters.

The area of the Poor
Law Union was 66,741 acres; rateable value £340,756 and the population
in 1891 was 54,369.

The Workhouse Infirmary was located on Lakin Road, formerly Union Road until
1938. Following the National Health Service Act 1948 it became Warwick Hospital.
