Worcester Union Workhouse

Following the Poor Law Amendment Act 1834 Worcester Poor Law Union was declared 22nd November 1836. 

Worcester Union comprised four Parishes, those of Worcester City, St John Bedwardine, St Martin and St Peter the Great

The Workhouse located on Tallow Hill was originally built 1794 by George Byfield, architect and re-built in 1894 to accommodate 260 inmates.

Clerk to the Guardians - John Gilson Sheild, 14 Foregate Street, Worcester.
Rev Frank Howard Pearce Higgins M.A. - Chaplain
Sydney Colen Legge - Medical Officer
Roland Roberts - Master of Workhouse
Mrs Roberts - Matron of Workhouse.
