Scarborough Poor Law Union and Workhouse

Scarborough Poor Law Union was declared 15th December 1836.

The workhouse, in Dean Road, consists of a large block of buildings in the Elizabethan style, erected in 1838, and available for 300 inmates; John DYDE, Master, 
Thomas McC. FOLEY L.R.C.P.I.., medical officer; Mrs. H. DYDE, matron.
The Union comprises of 30 townships/parishes, some in the North Riding, and some in the East.
The population in 1901 was 51,110.
