Saddleworth Poor Law Union and Workhouse
Since May 1853 Saddleworth has maintained its poor as a township, under the control of the Poor Law
Commissioners.
Mr James Platt is clerk to the Board of Guardians; Mr Joseph Harrop, superintendent
registrar; Mr Owen Platt, relieving officer; & Mr & Mrs Radcliffe are master & matron of the Workhouse, which has room for 120 inmates.
