Settle Poor Law Union and Workhouse

Settle Union comprises 31 townships, which had 13,762 inhabitants in 1851. 

The Workhouse is at Giggleswick, & has room for about 100 inmates. 

Mr W Foster is the Union clerk; 
Mr George Hartley, superintendent registrar; John Lister, registrar; 
Messrs Henry King of Giggleswick & Rd Atkinson of Austwick are the relieving officers. 
Mr James & Mrs Green are master & matron of the Workhouse.
