Holyhead Workhouse and Poor Law Union

Holyhead Poor Law Union was officially declared 13th September 1852 from the Anglesey Poor Law Union and comprised the parishes of Aberffraw, Bodedern, Bodwrog, Ceirchiog, Cerrig Ceinwen, Heneglwys, Holyhead, Llanbeulan, Llanddausaint, Llandrygarn with Gwyndu, Llanfuchreth, Llanfaelog, Llanfaethly, Llanfair-yn-Howyn, Llantwrog, Llangwyfan, Llanllibio, Llanrhyddlad, Llantrisaint, Llanynghenedl, Llechylched and Trewalchmai. The parish of Rhoscolyn was added 21st September 1852.

By 1861 the population was 20,317 and the total area of the poor law union was 62,169 acres.

The Holyhead Workhouse was erected at Valley, and later became Valley Hospital. It has since been demolished.
