Haverfordwest Poor Law Union was declared 15 December 1836 and consisted of the following parishes, Ambleston, Boulston, Brawdy, Camrose, Castle Blythe, Dale, East Walton, Fishguard, Freystrop, Furzy Park and Portfield (added 8 October 1860), Granston, Hasguard, Hayscastle (including villages of Brimstone and Ford), Henrys Moat, Herbrandston, Hubberston, Johnston, Jordanston, Lambston, Letterston, Little Newcastle, Llandeloy, Llanfair Nant-y-Gof, Langwm, Llanhowell, Llanllawer, Llanrian (including the village of Trevine), Llanrithan, Llanstinan, Llanwnda (including the villages of Diffrin and Goodwick), Llanychaer, Manorowen, Marloes, Mathry (including the villages of Abercastle and Castlemorris), Morvil, Nolton (including the village of Drewson), Pontfaen, Prendergast, Puncheston, Roch, Rudbaxton, St. Brides, St. Davids, St. Dogwells, St. Edrens, St. Elvis, St Ishmaels, St. Issells Haroldston, St. Lawrence, St Martin (Haverfordwest), St. Mary (Haverfordwest), St. Nicholas, St. Thomas (Haverfordwest ~ site of the Workhouse), Skokham Island (added in 20 January 1862), Spittal, Steynton (including the Borough of Milford), Talbenny, The Cathedral close of St. Davids (added in 20 January 1862), Treffgarne, Uzmaston, Walwins Castle (including the village of Silver Hill), West Haroldston, West Robeston, West Walton, Whitechurch (including the village of Solva) and Wiston.

The Union Workhouse was founded in 1839 in St Thomas' Parish, Haverfordwest. It was erected for 159 inmates at a cost of £1,500.

It became Haverfordwest Institution in 1930. Under the NHS which commenced in 1948 it was renamed St Thomas' Hospital.
The Hospital was closed in 1978.

The Building has now been converted for use as residential accommodation.

A Blue plaque has been placed on the building by Haverfordwest Town Council Civic Society, which states:

The Workhouse
A Workhouse called Priory Mount was built on this site during 1837-1839.
It continued in use until the second world war when it became a Hospital subsequently serving as a unit of the County Hospital and Withybush General Hospital.
It was converted into flats in 1982.
